Claudia Nable
|
Claudia's 30 plus years working as a Registered
Nurse has been in a variety of highly intensive areas in the medical
field. She initiated her practice at NYU Medical Center in New York City
working there from 1974 through 1990. Her areas of expertise included
Orthopedics, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neurosurgical ICU, and Emergency
Medicine. Working in NYU's Neurosurgical ICU provided her with the cutting
edge developments and treatments of Spinal Cord injuries, as this facility
was one of the main research centers in the Northeast. This experience
strengthened her background and understanding of the newly injured spinal
cord injury patients. Her encouragement in allowing them to ventilate
their concerns, and treatment modalities, got them on the road to tackle
untoward results in a positive manner.
Shortly after moving to Florida, she became involved with disabled
sailing, and has been involved in it for more than eight years within this
area. Claudia is one of the co founders of Sailability Greater Tampa Bay,
Inc. It was in 2001 that she and a small group of people envisioned and
implemented an opportunity within their community. They knew that the
sport of sailing was one in which those individuals who were physically
challenged, could partake in this fun activity. They knew that boats could
be adapted to meet the needs of individuals, thereby affording those with
physical limitations the opportunity to experience the excitement in
sailing. Hence, those physically challenged individuals quickly realized
that the only limitations they faced, were those imposed by their mind,
and, that whatever one might set their mind to do, can be accomplished.
The medical expertise she brings to Sailability serves to enhance their
high level of safety standards and comfort in serving the special needs
populations. Her goal is to be able to continuously grow the program, and
assist in the empowerment of all the individuals involved.
She currently works in the Emergency Department at Helen Ellis Memorial
Hospital in Tarpon Springs Florida. She spends many volunteer hours with
Sailability's multitude of outreach program, serves on Sailability's Board
of Directors, as well as on the Board of Directors for the Clearwater
Community Sailing Center. |
